Towards the Light St Ninian’s Beach, Shetland
There are landscapes that demand attention, and others that reveal themselves more quietly. This view across St Ninian’s Beach in Shetland is very much the latter.
What drew me to the scene was the beautiful natural flow through the landscape. The soft water and sweeping curve of pale sand gently carry the eye through the photograph towards the distant headland, where a fleeting patch of sunlight illuminates the green land beyond.
I particularly love the contrast between the cool, subdued blues of the water and sky and that small area of warmth in the distance. Nothing overwhelms the scene; everything feels balanced and wonderfully calm.
For me, Towards the Light is a photograph about space, tranquillity and the simple pleasure of allowing your eye to wander slowly through a landscape.
